This is an old view of our mighty power system. Solar electric panels, although no longer on the house roof, are visible in this picture with the gray power shack below. Notice that it is considerably smaller than what you normally see at the local power company. That is because we don't use dirty coal & gas fired generators or dangerous nuclear materials, no power substations to transmit electricity over hundreds and thousands of miles. Simplicity is the key to a home run power system.
What do we use our power for?
Well, right now chances are that the web site you are looking at is being powered by this system.
My goal is to have this web site powered every day of the year by this system, but during long periods of cloudy weather this won't be exactly practical.
We have also used the power for other things like refrigerator and television loads.
Solar power can be used for just about anything.
I would like to give special thanks to the people at Home Power Magazine for their wonderful publication that got me going.
Until I came across their magazine at a newsstand I had no idea how to start setting up a system like this.
Their magazine is a treasure when it comes to renewable energy, and I think that it actually gave me the energy I needed to make this system work.
